Problem with this drive
Strengths: None so far
Weakness: Cannot install some copy protected games
I bought this drive because some games will not install or not play from a CD or DVD WRITER. Sims 2 would not play from this DVD-ROM drive!!! Look for a JLMS XJ-HD166S (166S Lite-On DVD-Rom Drive) OR the same drive rebadged as a Sony DDU1612. I have one of each of these on two other computers and they install and RUN all of our games with no problems. There is a new free firmware out for the SOHD-16P9S(F0D). Get it from the Lite_On Web Site (Google it). Or Google 'firmware index' and go to the web page link that comes up. They keep all firmware for any drive as free downloads there. Maybe this will fix some problems with this drive?
There is a good reason that the 2 drives I recommended instead of this one are priced higher.

TopSOHD-16P9S DVD-ROM Drive
Strengths: Reads DVD and CD discs fine
Weakness: A bit on the loud side
The black color goes well with my case. Good DVD drive for the price. I read that there was a firmware that reduced the speed (thus sound) of the drive. Can always used CD Speed if loud is unberable.

TopCheap DVD-ROM drive for those who don't need burners
Strengths: Cheap; fast
Weakness: A little noisy
It's a quality DVD-ROM drive and it's cheap, too. Just as people claimed, the drive is a little noisy. But you will have many things in computer that make more noise than this drive does, so it's really not a big problem. If you don't need a burner and you want to save some money I would recommend this drive.

Strengths: Does a great job ripping DVD and audio CDs. Looks good, operates smoothly. Good price.
Weakness: it is a little bit noisier then other drives, but what do you expect for the price.
This is a very nice drive, and it was also at an excellent price. I have been extremely pleased with this drive, and also had good experience with LITEON, as well. If you are looking for a DVD-ROM, do yourself a favor and buy this one. You can't go wrong

TopGreat Lite-on DVD-rom Drive
Strengths: fast dvd-rom drive
Weakness: none
This dvd-rom drive is really nice. I use it to read or rip dvds so I dont have to wear out my dvd-r+/- drive. The drive isn't as noisy as other people claim but this is probably because I have hany fans that are much louder than the drive. Very fast drive with no problems at all.

TopLiteon SOHD-P9S DVD-ROM Drive
Strengths: fast ripping speeds for dvd and cd fast read speeds plays anything
Weakness: a little noisy
I am building an HTPC and needed a dvdrom drive to go with a dvd burner. The last dvd drive I bought was a toshiba, and it was great but lacked fast ripping speeds. The Liteon is great. I was able to backup 3 dvd's in one hour. It also was able to read even the worst scratched dvd I owned. Good job Liteon.

TopVery good DVD-ROM
Strengths: Fast, affordable
Weakness: Does not come with IDE cable
Installation was easy and smooth, performance and quality seems to be very good and I have not noticed an extraordinary noise that some others complain. Although this is a retail package, an IDE cable is not included. But comes with PowerDVD software.

TopQuality rom
Strengths: Fast, Dvd/cd-rom.
Weakness: noise, not a factor really. Its under 30 shessh!
This is great if you want to keep the number of roms to a minimum. It will play movies, music, pc games in cd format and great for the dvd format games for all in 1-CD packages. With this i can have all i need in 2 rom drives,
dvd-rom cd-rom, and a dvd burner.

TopGreat Budget Burner
Strengths: Fast, reliable DVD/CD burning
Weakness: Sub-par DVD reading
This is the second drive that I have purchased, and I have yet to be disappointed in a DVD burn. Using Nero 6.6.0.xx and haven't made a single coaster in over 500 burns using Ritek DVD-R media. Only complaint is that it seems to have trouble reading some original DVDs, but this may be due to scratches on reading surface. Would recommend a Lite-On DVD Rom for better reading.

Strengths: Quality drive at low cost
Weakness: A little loud
I got this for $10.49 shipped from cheifvalue after this $5 promo rebate. Excellent price for this drive. Can be a little loud when playing dvds but I use it for ripping content reading data.

Strengths: Cheap.Fast DVD ripper.
Weakness: Loud and noisy.
I bought this drive because Lite-on has a great history of dvd rippers. Good budget price. It is noisy but what do you expect for the speed. Recommended with a good dvd burner and you got a great dvd backup machine.

this drive can rip dvds really fast but it is noisy. the good thing is that there is a bunch of firmware for this drive. you can flash it so that it rip faster or flash it so that it'll be less noisy.
